Causes of Abnormal Cat Behavior

Cats are unique beings with their own personalities and behaviors. Some cats will develop abnormal cat behaviors, such as aggression, loud meowing, or other behavioral issues because of outside influences. Here are some of the things that can influence abnormal cat behavior, and create stress or apprehension in your cat:

  • A new baby
  • Moving to a new home
  • A new pet (cat or dog)
  • Absence of the owner (long term, such as a vacation or business trip)
  • Illness in another cat or in the pet owner
  • Sudden aggression by another cat
  • Loss of another cat or pet, especially if the two cats were close or siblings
Sometimes, the stress or abnormal behavior will take care of itself through a little love and attention. In other situations, you may need professional intervention from your vet or other cat professional.
