Fetching Love: How your pet can get you a date!

Another dateless Saturday night? No need to work yourself into a tailspin just yet. There’s good news for the lovelorn pet owner. If you’re begging for a partner, finding one may be as easy as a walk in the park.

As much as we enjoy the unconditional love we receive from our pets, we yearn to share our lives with those within our own species. But securing a mate is often easier said than done. Until now, Bash Dibra, renowned pet guru, says the answer to your relationship woes may come in a furry package.

Dibra has devised a stable of tricks that turn your best friend into your “wingpet.” A kitty Cupid? A doggie Don Juan? That’s right. It’s the ultimate in animal magnetism. Your dashing dog or pretty kitty can be trained to do the legwork for you. Besides, isn’t it about time someone else in your household did the picking up?

Let’s face it — initiating conversation with someone you find attractive can be an uncomfortable situation. Pets not only catch the eye of the one who’s caught yours, they can help break the ice. “It’s easy to be bold when you’re hiding behind e-mail or text messaging. In person it’s often a different story,” the expert explains. “Pets can give you the confidence you might be lacking.”

Indeed, Dibra’s method gives new meaning to socializing. He suggests letting the pets do the talking. “One gentleman client preferred blondes, so we trained his Basset Hound to bark when he sees one. The women ask, ‘What’s the matter with your dog?’ and my client responds, ‘He thinks you should give me your number, and he’s not going to stop until you say yes.’”

Turning Spot into a card-carrying dog trained to deliver a note to your love interest, teaching your pet to pull trousers to get attention, and waving hello are also among the love-fetching tricks included in Bash’s best-selling book, “Star Pet.” Just remember — you command a dog; you ask a cat.

And if you’ve sent your pet barking up the wrong tree, not to worry, Dibra’s plan is foolproof, “You can always convince yourself the person has rejected the cat or the dog. Not you.”

Whether you find the one, the one for now, or no one at all, you’re in for a treat. Teaching tricks establishes a fun dynamic between you and your pet, as well as the person you’re hoping to impress. Now don’t you think that’s what our four-legged friends are for?
